The Role of Sports in Nation-Building

Sports has the power to change the world and transform nations. The AGHAILAS Foundation continues to champion sports development to foster youth development, social cohesion, health & well-being, and unity.
The foundation has supported more than 25 football (soccer) teams across Liberia through its arts, culture, & sports program, while also contributing to other sports activities like basketball.
The sports, culture, & arts programs serve as the glue that hold youth engagement and as springboards for mobilization, awareness, and conflict-resolution. They also promote health & wellbeing and create a sense of belonging and shared-pride amongst the youth.

Each year, the AGHAILAS Foundation identifies with sports teams seeking support in sports materials and equipment, including jerseys, cleats, and other stationeries. The foundation volunteer teams organize and support sports tournaments that have garnered overwhelming exciting amongst young people and attract communities support. Funding for sports and arts programs is usually scarce and government funding is hard to come by given other national development priorities. This is why it is important for champions in the private sector (including community members, business owners, artists, and other philanthropists) to get involved in supporting sports and culture programs.
